Why I Pretend to be an Influencer Every Time I Go on Vacation

Why I Pretend to Be an Influencer Every Time I Go on Vacation 🌴✨

And Honestly, It’s Becoming a Problem

Listen.
I know I’m not famous.
My “fan base” currently consists of my mom, one loyal friend, and a mysterious bot that comments fire emojis on every post no matter what I upload.

However, the moment I go on vacation, something changes inside me.

Suddenly, I am convinced I am a luxury travel influencer with a global audience, brand partnerships, and an unspoken contract with the sun itself.
Confidence appears. Delusion activates. Reality logs out.

In fact, I’ll be posing dramatically on a beach like I’m filming a perfume commercial called Eau de Tourist while fully ignoring the fact that I tripped on an airport escalator less than an hour earlier.

Clearly, this is a lifestyle choice.

Why Pretending to Be an Influencer While Traveling Feels Mandatory

The transformation happens instantly.

As soon as my suitcase touches hotel carpet, a voice in my brain whispers,
Act natural. Act beautiful. Act like someone is definitely filming a cinematic slow-motion montage of you right now.

As a result, I immediately begin doing the following:

• leaning against railings like I’m waiting for paparazzi
• pretending to sip coffee even though it’s still lava
• walking extremely slowly for “the aesthetic”
• popping one leg out like a confused flamingo
• gazing into the distance as if reflecting on my journey

Meanwhile, locals are just trying to buy groceries and not witness this nonsense.

Naturally, I ignore them.

The Vacation Delusion Hits Hard and Fast

At home, I am realistic.
On vacation, however, realism dies quietly in the corner.

Suddenly, I believe:

• this lighting was placed here specifically for me
• this staircase is iconic
• this wall deserves a photoshoot
• this breeze was scheduled
• this random alley has influencer potential

Therefore, every location becomes content.

In reality, it’s just me standing awkwardly while tourists walk around me wondering what I’m doing with my arms.

My Travel Partner Deserves Compensation

God bless anyone who travels with me.

Because the moment we arrive, I hand them my phone and transform them into:

• a professional photographer
• a creative director
• a lighting technician
• an emotional support human
• a victim

At first, they try.

Then I say,
Take it again.
Again.
Again, but make me look taller.

Eventually, they ask what angle I want.

I respond with confidence,
Just tilt the planet a little.

This feels reasonable to me.

The Poses Make No Sense and I Will Not Explain Them

Somewhere deep inside me lives a chaotic gremlin who genuinely believes she is Bella Hadid.

Because of that, I strike poses no human has ever practiced successfully, including:

• the I just remembered an unpaid bill stare
• the walking but definitely about to fall stroll
• the laughing even though nothing is funny head throw
• the hold my hat so it looks windy stance
• the summoning a Pokémon crouch

Honestly, half the photos look like I’m trying to communicate with another dimension.

Still, I post them.

Why Influencer Energy Actually Improves the Trip

As ridiculous as this sounds, pretending to be an influencer while traveling has benefits.

For example:

• I explore more places
• I walk farther than planned
• I notice better lighting
• I end up with hilarious memories
• I get photos that imply I sleep and hydrate

At the same time, this fake confidence makes me feel bold.

I try new spots.
I wander more.
I stop caring who’s watching.

Ironically, pretending to be confident makes me confident.

Science probably hates that.

Every Location Becomes a Photoshoot

Once influencer mode activates, everything becomes glamorous.

A beach becomes cinematic.
A staircase becomes editorial.
A café becomes lifestyle content.
A random convenience store becomes vibes.

In fact, I once posed in front of a vending machine like it had deep emotional meaning.

No regrets.

The Editing Phase Is Where Time Goes to Die

After the trip comes the editing.

This is where I:

• adjust brightness
• adjust contrast
• adjust warmth
• adjust shadows
• stare at my face for too long
• question my identity

Eventually, three hours pass and I’ve chosen one photo.

Naturally, I post it with a caption like:
So grateful ✨

This is a lie. I am exhausted.

The Caption Lies Are Part of the Brand

What actually happened:
I was hot, tired, slightly lost, and hungry.

What the caption says:
Living my best life 🌴✨

Honestly, captions are fictional short stories.

Still, they work.

Why I Will Never Stop Doing This

At this point, pretending to be an influencer while traveling is tradition.

It makes the trip more fun.
It gives me stories.
It turns awkward moments into comedy.
It reminds me not to take myself seriously.

Most importantly, it makes travel feel playful instead of perfect.

And that’s the magic.

Final Thoughts Before I Edit Photos Until Midnight

Travel is already special.
But adding a little main-character energy makes it unforgettable.

So next time you go on vacation:

• pop the hip
• fake-laugh into the wind
• take too many photos
• ask someone to try again
• pretend you’re famous

Because you don’t need followers to feel fabulous.

You just need daylight, confidence, and someone patient enough to take 88 photos from the same angle.
